The Penn State men’s tennis team lost to No. 26 University of Southern California by a score of 0-7 on April 3 in Los Angeles. The defeat brings the Nittany Lions’ season record to 14 wins and 9 losses, with a conference record of 2-6.
This result highlights the challenges faced by Penn State as they compete against highly ranked opponents late in their season.
In doubles play, Reiya Hattori and Eyal Shyovitz were defeated by Max Exsted and Nathan Trouve with a score of 2-6 on court two. Marcus Schoeman and Christos Glavas lost to Connor Church and Pablo Robledo, finishing at 3-6 on court three. The match between Michael Wright and David Lindsay against Andrin Casanova and Jack McCarthy was abandoned at a score of 4-5 after USC clinched the doubles point.
During singles matches, Shyovitz fell to Church on court five (1-6, 0-6), while Wright was defeated by Branko Djuric on court one (3-6, 0-6). Schoeman lost his match against Exsted (3-6, 3-6) on court two. Lindsay was beaten by Casanova (6-7 [2-7], 3-6) on court four. Hattori lost to McCarthy (0-6, 6-7 [3-7]) in spot three, while Kyle Chesman was defeated by Niels Hoffman (6-7 [2–7], 2–6) on court six.
