Penn State men’s volleyball remains unbeaten in EIVA with sweep over Charleston

Penn State men’s volleyball continued its strong performance in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, sweeping Charleston 3-0 (25-20, 28-26, 25-20) at the Wehrle Innovation Center on April 4. The Nittany Lions improved their record to 16-7 overall and remain undefeated in conference play at 8-0. Charleston fell to 13-12 overall and holds a conference record of 4-6.

The victory keeps Penn State two matches ahead of George Mason with four EIVA contests remaining in the regular season. The two teams are scheduled to meet at Rec Hall during the final weekend of regular play.

Sean Harvey led Penn State with a .448 hitting percentage and recorded 16 kills. Matthew Luoma contributed closely behind with 15 kills on .321 hitting, while Michael Schwob assisted on 29 points as the team hit .313 overall. From the service line, Penn State totaled eight aces—Rose and Harvey each served three aces, and Bennett Wilson added two more. Rose now leads the team this season with a total of 27 aces.

Charleston’s Conrad Spidso was notable for his performance as well, hitting .333 with fourteen kills along with two blocks and five digs.

With this win, Penn State improved its all-time series record against Charleston to twenty-two wins and one loss. In set one, Harvey was dominant by achieving eight kills on a .615 hitting percentage as Penn State closed out strong after a close contest throughout most of the set. Set two featured frequent ties and lead changes before Luoma secured match point for Penn State. In contrast, set three saw only one tie early before Penn State took control for good.

Looking ahead, Penn State will continue its EIVA schedule on the road against Sacred Heart on April 10 and April 11.
