Penn State lost its series finale against Northwestern on April 12, with a final score of 17-3 in six innings at Nittany Lion Softball Park & Beard Field.

The game saw Penn State start strong, but ultimately the team could not hold off Northwestern’s offense. This loss puts Penn State’s overall record at 26-15 and their Big Ten Conference record at 7-8. Meanwhile, Northwestern improved to a 20-19 overall mark and moved above .500 in conference play with an 8-7 record.

Freshman left fielder Breanna Hanik led the Nittany Lions’ efforts, going 2-for-3 with an RBI double and a walk. Junior infielder Brooke Klosowicz contributed by scoring two runs and hitting her second triple of the season. Additional hits came from freshman Allison Oneacre and sophomore catcher Macy Chamberlin, while junior Jordan George added an RBI via sacrifice fly.

The game began with promise for Penn State as Klosowicz tripled and scored on Hanik’s double in the first inning. The team left the bases loaded but maintained a lead through three innings thanks to pitching from Abigail Britton. However, Northwestern scored three runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth to take control before adding ten runs in the sixth.

Looking ahead, Penn State will conclude its seven-game home stand by hosting Bucknell on Tuesday, April 14, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. The matchup will be available for streaming via B1G+.
