Penn State announced on May 8 that the eighth-seeded Nittany Lions will host No. 12 Army West Point in the first round of the 2026 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse tournament. The game is scheduled for Saturday at Panzer Stadium with a faceoff set for 2:30 p.m.
The matchup brings together two programs with a combined history of 222 years in collegiate lacrosse. Penn State, which has now qualified for four consecutive NCAA tournaments, secured its postseason berth by winning the Big Ten Championship against Johns Hopkins, finishing with a score of 16-8.
Army enters this contest having played five games against top-20 opponents this season and holding a record of three wins and two losses in those matchups. Penn State has faced ranked teams nine times so far, posting seven victories and two defeats. The Black Knights are recognized for their strong defensive play, ranking among the top five nationally by allowing an average of just over eight goals per game.
In their previous meeting during last year’s NCAA tournament quarterfinals, Penn State defeated Army West Point by a narrow margin of 10-9 to advance to the semifinals for only the second time in program history. Goalie Jack Fracyon recorded eleven saves in that game.
Several players have received national recognition ahead of Saturday’s contest. Freshman Jack Iannantuono was named fifth-most impactful freshman by Inside Lacrosse after consistent performances throughout his debut season. Senior defenseman Alex Ross was selected as an All-American second team member and became an eighth overall pick in this year’s Premier Lacrosse League draft.
Head coach Jeff Tambroni continues to be one of college lacrosse’s most successful active coaches with a total of 248 career victories and a winning percentage above sixty-five percent. If Penn State wins on Saturday, it would mark their tenth win this season and secure back-to-back quarterfinal appearances—something not previously achieved by the program.
