Penn State track and field completes Bison Outdoor Classic with eight event wins

Penn State’s track and field team concluded its participation at the Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg on April 12, finishing the weekend with eight event victories. Six women and two men from the Nittany Lions secured first-place finishes during the meet.

The women’s hammer throw opened the day for Penn State, with Alex Pancoast winning the event by achieving a personal best of 182-1.00 (55.50 meters). Gabi Deglau placed third with a mark of 174-6.00 (53.19 meters), while Gabby Cope finished sixth at 171-11.00 (52.41 meters).

In hurdles events, Abasiono Akpan took second place in the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.06, followed by Addyson White in fourth at 1:00.72; White also finished seventh in the women’s 100-meter hurdles at 14.49 seconds.

Alexandria North led Penn State to another victory in the women’s 400-meter dash, clocking a time of 53.75 seconds; Ryleigh Hearn came fifth at 55.53 seconds. North also competed in the women’s 200-meter dash, placing fourth at 24.35 seconds as Mimi Duffy ran a time of 24.82 seconds.

On the men’s side, freshman Peyton Sommers won the men’s 200-meter dash with a wind-aided time of 20.84 seconds (3.9w). In throwing events, Audrey Friedman achieved fifth place in the women’s javelin after recording a distance of 148-2 (45.17 meters).

Looking ahead, Penn State will compete next at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville on April 17 and April 18.
