Penn State women’s tennis lost a close 4-3 match to Indiana on April 11 in Bloomington. The Nittany Lions now hold a record of 12-9 overall and 3-7 in the Big Ten, while the Hoosiers improved to 14-8 overall and 4-6 in conference play.

The outcome is significant as it impacts Penn State’s standing within the Big Ten conference as they approach the end of their regular season. The narrow margin highlights the competitiveness between both teams.

Olivia Dorner and Maelie Monfils secured their fifth ranked win of the season, defeating No. 84 Alessandra Teodosescu and Hi’iliani Williams in doubles. Dorner and Monfils also won their singles matches, providing all three points for Penn State during the contest.

In doubles play, Patricia Grigoras and Maiko Uchijima opened with a win over Elisabeth Dunac and Nicole Sifuentes on court two. Dorner and Monfils clinched the doubles point by winning on court one. On court three, Brianna Baldi and Maria Daciana Ciubotaru were tied at five games each before their match was left unfinished.

Dorner started singles with a decisive victory over Nicole Teodosescu, improving her spring singles record to 10-3. Monfils extended Penn State’s lead with her own win at the top spot for her second consecutive Big Ten victory on court one. However, Indiana rallied by winning four straight singles matches: Baldi fell to Sifuentes; Grigoras lost to Ameia Sorey; Ciubotaru was defeated by Williams; Uchijima came up short against Dunac.

Looking ahead, Penn State will conclude its road schedule against Purdue at 10 a.m. Sunday.
