The University of Pennsylvania men’s and women’s track and field teams will participate in the Tom Jones Invitational in Gainesville, Florida, and the Paul Donahue Invitational in Chester, Pennsylvania, on April 17-18.
These meets are important opportunities for athletes to continue their strong performances this season. Several Penn athletes have recently set records or achieved high national rankings.
Jessica Oji broke the school record in women’s shot put with a mark of 18.10 meters, which currently ranks first in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Ryan Matulonis holds second place nationally in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 49.39 seconds. The men’s 4×400 meter relay team—composed of David Davitt, Nayyir Newash-Campbell, Benjamin Markham, and Ryan Matulonis—also set a new school record at 3:03.74.
Angeludi Asaah is ranked tenth nationally after winning the women’s discus event with a season-best throw of 56.66 meters. Jordyn Reed recorded a personal best time of 11.70 seconds in the 100 meters, ranking fifth all-time for Penn; Keira Beaumont followed closely at seventh place with an 11.80-second finish. The women’s 4×400 meter relay team posted the sixth-fastest time in program history at 3:35.63.
Other notable NCAA Top-25 performances include Lily Murphy (22nd) in the women’s 10,000 meters and Nayyir Newash-Campbell (23rd) in the men’s 400 meters.
Looking ahead, Penn will host or attend several key meets including the Penn Relays from April 23-25 in Philadelphia; Larry Ellis Invitational on May 1-2 at Princeton; and Ivy League Heptagonal Championship on May 16-17 also at Princeton.
