The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced the closure of all driver license and photo centers, including its full-service center in Harrisburg, on Thursday, June 19, 2025. This closure is in observance of Juneteenth National Freedom Day, an official annual observance in Pennsylvania. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas with news of the Civil War’s end.

Despite the closures, PennDOT assures that customers can still access a variety of driver and vehicle products and services online through their Driver and Vehicle Services website. These services are available 24/7 and include renewals for driver’s licenses, photo IDs, and vehicle registrations; driver-history services; address changes; restoration letters; payment options for restoration fees; duplicates for licenses and IDs; REAL ID pre-verification; and exam scheduling. There are no additional fees for using these online services.

A complete list of PennDOT driver and photo license center closings for 2025 is available online. For those planning to visit one of PennDOT’s Online Messenger Service Centers during holidays, it is advised to call ahead to confirm hours of operation.

For domestic flights within the United States, travelers now need a REAL ID driver’s license or ID card or another acceptable form of identification such as a passport. Information on obtaining a REAL ID can be found at pa.gov/REALID.

Motorists seeking information on road conditions can visit www.511PA.com. The service provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to over 1,000 traffic cameras. It is free and available around the clock via a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices or by calling 5-1-1.
