Motorists in Blair County should prepare for short-term lane closures on Interstate 99 northbound between the Frankstown Road Exit and 17th Street Exit. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that these closures will begin on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane for concrete patching on July 22 and July 23. New Enterprise Stone and Lime, Inc., based in New Enterprise, Pa., is handling the $23.5 million project. The improvements cover a 10-mile stretch from the median cross-over near Newry to the 17th Street exit, with completion expected by September 2025.

PennDOT emphasizes caution in work zones, advising drivers to slow down, eliminate distractions, and follow signage directions. As of June 5, 2025, “Paul Miller’s Law” prohibits using hand-held devices while driving. Violations can result in summary citations from Pennsylvania law enforcement.

For real-time traffic updates, motorists can visit www.511PA.com or use the smartphone app available for iPhone and Android devices. The service offers traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, speed information, and access to over 1,000 traffic cameras.
