The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced the closure of all driver license and photo centers, including its full-service center in Harrisburg, on November 27 and 28, 2025, for the Thanksgiving holiday. Despite these closures, PennDOT’s Driver and Vehicle Services website will remain operational, offering various services such as renewals for driver’s licenses, photo IDs, and vehicle registrations. Other online services include driver-history checks, address changes, restoration letters for licenses and registrations, fee payments for license or insurance restorations, duplicates for licenses and IDs, REAL ID pre-verification, and exam scheduling.

PennDOT assures that there are no extra charges for using these online services. A detailed list of all center closings in 2025 can be found on their website. Customers planning to visit an Online Messenger Service Center during the holidays are advised to confirm operating hours in advance.

For those planning domestic air travel, a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or ID card is now required to board flights within the United States. PennDOT offers an online wizard to assist individuals in deciding if a REAL ID is necessary. More information on obtaining a REAL ID can be accessed at pa.gov/REALID.

Motorists can monitor traffic conditions on major roads by visiting www.511PA.com. This service provides updates on traffic delays, weather forecasts, speed information, and access to over 1,200 traffic cameras around the clock. The 511PA service is also accessible via a smartphone app available for both iPhone and Android users or by calling 5-1-1.
