The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a virtual public meeting to discuss improvements to traffic operations and the installation of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices along a 10-mile section of U.S. 1 in Delaware County. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 18, at 7:00 PM.

The project aims to enhance travel and safety on U.S. 1 from Schoolhouse Lane in Concord Township to just west of Weymouth Road in Springfield Township. Proposed ITS enhancements include installing 14 closed-circuit TV cameras, four changeable digital messaging signs, and underground fiber optics and power connections along the corridor.

Additionally, the project will improve the Route 252 (Providence Road) and U.S. 1 Interchange by removing the raised concrete median to create a designated left-turn lane from Route 252 to U.S. 1.

PennDOT encourages public participation in the live virtual meeting via Microsoft Live Teams. The design team will present project details before opening the floor for questions through the platform’s Q&A feature. Access to the internet or a compatible device is necessary for viewing.

Individuals with special needs are advised to contact PennDOT Project Manager Madeleine Fausto at 610-205-6848 or Design Project Manager Brian Lapinsky at 443-330-5505 for assistance.

For those unable to attend, a recording and materials will be available on the project webpage post-presentation. Feedback can also be submitted using an online comment form.
