Construction on the U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) sinkhole remediation project in Upper Merion Township will continue through late September, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). The $22.4 million project aims to provide long-term solutions for recurring sinkholes on U.S. 202 in Montgomery County and Route 29 (Morehall Road) in Chester County.

Motorists should be aware that northbound U.S. 202 will remain closed around the clock between Henderson Road and Saulin Boulevard/Prince Frederick Boulevard until late September. During this period, traffic will be rerouted via Henderson Road and Saulin Boulevard, with local access maintained at all times. Drivers are advised to plan for delays when approaching the work area.

Once construction on northbound U.S. 202 is completed, work will shift to the southbound lanes, expected to begin in early 2026. The contractor for this project, Heidelberg Materials, LLC of northeast region, will use a limited mobility grouting program to stabilize the ground beneath the roadway by injecting pressurized grout into drilled holes.

The project also includes drainage improvements and pavement reconstruction. The remediation efforts were deemed necessary due to frequent sinkholes and emergency repairs that have disrupted traffic along these corridors.

The project is financed entirely with federal funds. For further details, motorists can visit the U.S. 202 and Route 29 sinkhole remediation project webpages or check road conditions on www.511PA.com.
