Pennsylvania lawmakers are reviewing a bill that would allow employees who are on strike to receive Unemployment Compensation (UC) Benefits. The proposed legislation has already passed the House and is currently being considered in the Senate.
If enacted, the bill would extend full unemployment benefits to workers who have not lost their jobs but have chosen to go on strike. Supporters say this would provide financial support for striking workers, while opponents argue it could place additional burdens on small businesses.
The proposal follows similar efforts in other states. For example, last year California Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed a comparable measure.
“Tell your lawmakers this is bad legislation for small businesses and oppose increasing benefits to those employed. This proposal is so bad that California Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed a similar idea last year,” stated representatives from the National Federation of Independent Business – Pennsylvania.
