Pennsylvania GOP announced that Philadelphia County Sheriff Rochelle Bilal threatened to arrest federal law enforcement officers, criticizing their use of masks and drawing attention to tensions between local and federal authorities.
According to a post on X by the Pennsylvania GOP, Sheriff Rochelle Bilal criticized federal officers for wearing masks while instructing her own deputies that masks are permitted for tactical or safety purposes. The post warned that such rhetoric could increase risks for federal law enforcement in Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia Police Department reported 222 homicides in 2025, down from 269 in 2024, marking the lowest total in decades. Other violent crimes also fell, with gun robberies down 22 percent and aggravated assaults with a firearm down 14 percent.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said that enforcement operations resulted in more than 605,000 deportations since January 20, 2025. Additionally, they noted that 1.9 million illegal aliens voluntarily self-deported during the same period and reported arrests of over 595,000 illegal aliens.
The Pennsylvania GOP serves as the state affiliate of the Republican National Committee. It supports Republican candidates and promotes policies focused on limited government, economic freedom, and public safety. The party engages in grassroots efforts to advance conservative values in the state.
