The Pennsylvania GOP has expressed its support for Representative Rob Bresnahan’s bipartisan Local Farmers Feeding Our Communities Act. The announcement was made on X, emphasizing the bill’s role in bolstering local agriculture and food security through strategic partnerships.

According to Times Leader, Representative Bresnahan introduced the Local Farmers Feeding Our Communities Act during a roundtable at Brace’s Orchard. He highlighted the crucial yet often overlooked role of growers in ensuring food security. Bresnahan said that the legislation facilitates agreements between local growers and food distribution programs to provide fresh, nutritious produce to families in need. The event included stakeholders such as Feeding Pennsylvania and local orchard owners who emphasized the importance of integrating farming with food access efforts.

Times Leader reports that the act allows for the use of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)-supported cooperative agreements to direct funds toward purchasing locally grown food, including milk, eggs, meat, and produce, for regional distribution. This initiative ensures that aid remains within Pennsylvania, benefiting small, mid-size, veteran, and beginning farmers while enhancing access to fresh food. The act has garnered support from various organizations like the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, Feeding Pennsylvania, Feeding America, and National Farmers Union.

According to PA Ag Republicans—a statewide platform supporting agricultural values in the Commonwealth—Bresnahan’s legislation is described as “bipartisan” with a focus on keeping food local to strengthen both producer and consumer communities. The platform notes that the bill helps reduce waste by redirecting surplus harvests into community distribution networks, thereby supporting nutrition access and Pennsylvania’s agricultural economy.

The Republican Party of Pennsylvania’s official website describes the Pennsylvania GOP as “the Great Opportunity Party,” committed to advancing conservative principles such as economic growth and individual liberty while supporting local industries like agriculture. The organization actively promotes legislation reinforcing rural and family-focused policy objectives and aims to elect Republican candidates who advocate these values. As a leading political entity in the Commonwealth, the Pennsylvania GOP strives to shape governance aligned with community-centered conservative priorities.
