The Pennsylvania House Republicans announced on X that Attorney General Dave Sunday has joined a multistate coalition warning telecom providers to stop routing illegal robocalls.
According to a statement from the Pennsylvania House Republicans on X, Attorney General Sunday joined forces with 50 other state attorneys general in a campaign called “Operation Robocall Roundup” to target companies enabling illegal robocall traffic. The coalition issued warning letters to 37 voice providers, urging them to halt the routing of fraud-related calls through their networks. The announcement stressed the importance of protecting Pennsylvanians from deception and preserving consumer trust in telecommunications.
According to the Office of the Pennsylvania Attorney General, this initiative marks the first action under “Operation Robocall Roundup” by the Anti-Robocall Litigation Task Force, aiming to reduce illegal robocalls across Pennsylvania and beyond. The warning letters instruct providers to improve vetting of their clients, implement robust call-blocking measures, and collaborate with law enforcement on investigations. This effort comes amid rising concerns over scams using fraudulent caller IDs and automated messages to defraud consumers.
According to YouMail’s Robocall Index, U.S. consumers received just over 55 billion robocalls in 2023—an increase of 9% from 2022—highlighting the magnitude of the problem. With billions of unwanted calls hitting American phones annually, experts underscore the urgent need for actions like the multistate warning coalition to curb the flood of scam and spam calls. Such protections, paired with technological solutions and regulatory enforcement, are essential for preserving consumer privacy and trust in communications.
The Pennsylvania House Republicans are the majority caucus in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, advocating for policies that safeguard consumers, uphold public safety, and ensure government accountability. The caucus actively supports initiatives such as “Operation Robocall Roundup” and encourages constituents to register for the state’s Do Not Call list to reduce scam calls. Through official channels like social media and legislative outreach, they aim to empower Pennsylvanians with knowledge and protection against emerging threats.
