The Pennsylvania Republican Party said that the state needs the Save America Act to restore trust in elections by ensuring only eligible voters participate through proof of citizenship, voter ID requirements, and accurate voter rolls.

According to an official post from the party, the organization called for the legislation due to low public confidence in elections. It said its position aligns with federal legislation designed to also strengthen election safeguards.

Hundreds of noncitizens were registered to vote in Philadelphia due to a long-standing glitch in the motor voter system, with additional cases identified statewide. State audits have continued to identify isolated instances of improper registration attempts, including one noncitizen application approved through PennDOT in a recent six-month review period. Officials have taken steps to remove ineligible registrations and refer cases for prosecution where illegal voting occurred, as reported by Spotlight PA.

According to Congress.gov, the Save America Act would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration in federal elections, along with photo identification to vote. The legislation passed the House of Representatives and remains under consideration in the Senate.

A 2025 Pew Research Center survey found that 83% of Americans support requiring photo ID to vote, including 95% of Republicans and 71% of Democrats.

The Pennsylvania Republican Party is the official state affiliate of the Republican National Committee, according to its website. The party organizes voter registration efforts, grassroots campaigns, and policy advocacy across the commonwealth.
