The Pennsylvania Republican Party criticized the Shapiro administration’s response to a Right-to-Know request about whether Gov. Josh Shapiro used internet browsers on state devices. The party made the statement in a May 2 post on X.

The dispute centers on whether Shapiro used internet browsers on state devices and how his office responded to requests for related records. The Pennsylvania Office of Open Records previously found that prior attestations from the governor’s office were conclusory and did not establish that a proper search was conducted under state law, according to Broad + Liberty.

The governor’s office submitted a new attestation saying Shapiro personally confirmed he had not browsed the internet on a state device. The filing relied on the chief of staff asking the governor, but no IT personnel were consulted, and no devices were examined, according to Broad + Liberty.

The governor’s office previously distinguished between browser use and other ways of accessing online content on state devices, according to Broad + Liberty.

The Pennsylvania Republican Party is the state affiliate of the Republican Party and works to elect Republican candidates throughout the commonwealth. The organization says it promotes ideals including freedom, liberty, personal responsibility, and opportunity, according to the Pennsylvania Republican Party.
