NFIB’s “Small Business Rundown” podcast featured Pennsylvania small business owner Warren Hudak on Mar. 25 to discuss the impact of rising health care costs on his business and how it affects competition with larger companies.
The issue is significant for many small businesses, as increasing health insurance expenses can make it difficult for them to compete with bigger firms when offering employee benefits. Legislation currently under consideration in Congress aims to help small business owners manage these rising costs.
“We’re a regional accounting firm here in central Pennsylvania,” Hudak explained. “So, we deal with a lot of healthcare issues for our clients. I mean, we’re trying to compete with the big guys…when it comes to healthcare, it’s not left, right, or Republican or Democrat. It’s more David and Goliath. We’re expected to compete with the big boys with our healthcare benefits, but it’s impossible.”
NFIB recently released a new Legislative Health Care Plan that includes several proposals for Congress designed to lower health care costs for small businesses and protect their ability to offer benefits to employees.
The discussion highlights ongoing concerns among small business owners about maintaining competitive benefit packages amid increasing expenses.
