On February 5, 2026, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that 23 driver license centers across the Commonwealth have been renovated to modernize facilities and improve customer service for residents. The announcement was made during a visit by Secretary of Transportation Mike Carroll to the newly renovated Driver License Center in Carlisle.

The renovations are intended to reduce wait times, speed up processes, and serve more Pennsylvanians each year. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, millions of residents visit these centers annually, making facility improvements a priority for accessibility and efficiency.

“We are delighted to say that these renovations allow us to serve more customers, lower wait times, and provide an altogether more comfortable experience for Pennsylvanians visiting the driver license center (…) Getting customer service done for Pennsylvanians is paramount to us at PennDOT,” according to Mike Carroll.

The upgrades include additional workstations and counters, expanded customer seating and building space, upgraded electrical and HVAC systems, as well as new carpet, flooring, and lighting. Select locations now offer free public Wi-Fi. All 76 driver license centers in Pennsylvania feature the Motor Vehicle Network on flat-screen TVs displaying relevant information while customers wait; 59 centers also display queuing information on these screens.

PennDOT has also expanded online services under the Shapiro Administration. Residents can access and submit over 40 commonly used forms online at no charge. Other available online services include renewals for driver’s licenses, photo IDs, vehicle registrations; driver-history services; address changes; restoration letters; payment of restoration fees; duplicates; REAL ID pre-verification; and exam scheduling. There are no additional fees for completing these services online.

For those planning domestic travel, a REAL ID or other acceptable identification is required for boarding flights. Information about obtaining a REAL ID is available at pa.gov/REALID. Drivers can check roadway conditions through www.511PA.com or its smartphone application.
