United States Attorney David Metcalf announced that Joseph Perkins, a 31-year-old resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to seven years in prison. Perkins was convicted for robbing four banks in the city over a two-week period. United States District Judge Karen S. Marston also sentenced him to three years of supervised release.

Perkins faced charges from an indictment issued in October 2024, which included four counts of bank robbery. He pleaded guilty to these charges in March. According to court documents and his own admission, Perkins used threatening demand notes to obtain money from bank employees.

The robberies took place on the following dates and locations:

– August 26, 2024: Citizens Bank branch inside ACME Market at 2497 Aramingo Avenue
– August 29, 2024: Citizens Bank branch at 2101 Cottman Avenue
– September 4, 2024: TD Bank branch at 6304 Roosevelt Boulevard
– September 7, 2024: TD Bank branch at 2267 East Butler Street

While Perkins successfully obtained cash during the first three robberies, he left empty-handed after the fourth attempt.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI Philadelphia Violent Crimes Task Force and the Philadelphia Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kwambina Coker.
