The Philadelphia Union Academy’s U-15, U-16, and U-18 teams competed at the MLS NEXT Cup, one of North America’s leading youth soccer tournaments, according to a June 1 announcement. The event brought together top youth academies from across the country.

The U-15 team started the tournament with three consecutive wins against Global Football Innovation Academy (1–0), Sacramento Republic (4–2), and FC Bay Area Surf (2–0). The team’s run ended in the semifinals with a 2–0 loss to Total Futbol Academy, who went on to win the championship. The U-16 squad advanced through victories over FC Dallas (5–1) and ALBION SC San Diego (2–0) before being eliminated by Atlanta United in a penalty shootout that finished 7–6. The U-18s recorded a 2–1 win over Blau Weiss Gottschee but were defeated by Real Salt Lake in their second-round match by the same scoreline.

Tournament organizers said the competition offered players an opportunity to test themselves against elite opponents while progressing within Philadelphia Union’s player development pathway.

Philadelphia Union operates as a professional soccer team in Major League Soccer and maintains a roster of professional players on its main team, according to the official website. The club achieved its first Supporters’ Shield for best regular-season performance in Major League Soccer in 2020. Its facilities include Subaru Park—a waterfront stadium located in Chester—alongside dedicated training centers and practice fields. In addition to competing at an elite level, Philadelphia Union fosters fan involvement, youth programs, and community connections while providing professional matches for supporters.

The club continues to emphasize player development through events like MLS NEXT Cup as part of its ongoing commitment to nurturing young talent.
