The University of Pittsburgh announced on Apr. 16 that the city will host the NFL Draft from April 23 to 25, bringing a series of events, increased visitors, and significant impacts to local traffic and infrastructure.
The NFL Draft is expected to draw large crowds and affect daily routines for residents, students, and commuters in Pittsburgh. The university emphasized the importance of planning ahead for travel disruptions and staying informed about safety procedures during this major event.
One of the main highlights will be the Pitt Block Party x Arts Landing, held at a new civic space in downtown Pittsburgh’s Cultural District. This event is open to all community members throughout the draft period and will feature an immersive Pitt football museum showcasing the program’s connection to the NFL, live music, entertainment, food trucks, local vendors, and activity zones. More details about programming are expected soon through Pitt Athletics’ website and social media channels.
On April 24 at Acrisure Stadium, attendees can participate in an attempt to break a Guinness World Records title by joining hands-only CPR training led by Damar Hamlin’s Chasing M’s Foundation alongside Doctor Mike. The goal is to train 4,000 people within one hour.
Those traveling by car should expect limited parking availability in downtown Pittsburgh and around North Shore areas. Road closures will begin on Wednesday, April 22; drivers are advised to plan routes early using real-time parking apps such as ParkPGH or ParkWhiz. Public transit options are being expanded: Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) will run additional bus routes directly serving draft locations from suburban lots while all rides on Light Rail (the “T”) and Monongahela Incline will be free from April 23-25.
Cyclists can use resources provided by BikePGH for safe travel tips during draft week. Pedestrians are reminded to follow traffic rules closely—using sidewalks when available or walking facing traffic if not—and remain alert at crosswalks or intersections where drivers may not always stop.
Suspicious activity should be reported immediately either to Pitt Police at 412-624-2121 for campus incidents or City of Pittsburgh police via 911 elsewhere. On-campus emergencies can also be managed through subscriptions like ENS or Rave Guardian app with updates available via Pitt Police social media accounts.
Attendees are encouraged to download the NFL OnePass app for real-time information regarding events while Visit Pittsburgh offers comprehensive guides on transportation and activities throughout draft week.
