Rep. Brendan Boyle, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 2nd district since 2015, has recently expressed his concerns regarding proposed health care legislation by Republicans. Boyle, who succeeded Allyson Schwartz and previously served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2009 to 2015, shared his views through a series of tweets.
On May 20, 2025, Boyle criticized the Republican stance on Medicaid. He highlighted an inconsistency between former President Trump’s promise to “love and cherish Medicaid” and the current Republican bill that could potentially remove health insurance for 13.7 million Americans. Boyle urged any Republican interested in protecting Medicaid to sign his discharge petition “and do it today.”
In a tweet posted on May 21, 2025, at 4:47 AM UTC, Boyle reported his participation in the Rules Committee at an early hour as Republicans attempted to implement significant cuts to healthcare. He accused them of working secretly overnight with the intention of undermining American citizens without their knowledge. Boyle committed to resisting this action “as long as it takes.”
Later that morning at 7:08 AM UTC, Boyle reflected on advice from his mother about nothing good happening after midnight. He related this wisdom to current events, suggesting that Republicans were advancing their budget bill under cover of darkness due to its unpopularity in removing healthcare for millions “off their health care.”
Brendan Boyle was born in Philadelphia in 1977 and currently resides there. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a BA in 1999.
