Rep. Brendan Boyle, who represents Pennsylvania’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform on September 30, 2025, to criticize former President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers over health care policy and the potential for a government shutdown.

In a post published at 18:34 UTC, Boyle stated: “Donald Trump just said the quiet part out loud:

He wants a shutdown.

He wants to rip away your health care and make it more expensive.

He wants working Americans to suffer.”

Later that evening at 21:33 UTC, Boyle reiterated his stance against Republican efforts on health care, writing: “I won’t stand by while Republicans rip health care from my neighbors in Philly and hardworking families across America.

Trump’s health care crisis is kicking millions off coverage, jacking up costs for millions more, and padding the pockets of his billionaire buddies. It’s vile.”

At 21:46 UTC, Boyle addressed comments made by Senator Thune regarding hospital closures attributed to what he called “Trump’s Big Ugly Law.” He posted: “Senator Thune says the hospital closures caused by Trump’s Big Ugly Law are ‘made up.’

He should visit Pennsylvania and tell that to the people who Republicans are kicking off their health care to give tax breaks to billionaires.”

Brendan Boyle has represented Pennsylvania’s 2nd District since 2015 after previously serving in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2009 to 2015. Born in Philadelphia in 1977, he continues to reside there. He succeeded Allyson Schwartz in Congress and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame (Fact sources: [1](#), [2](#), [3](#), [4](#)).
