Rep. Bud Cook announced on May 11 that his Student Advisors Forum will take place this week, bringing together students from the 50th district to present findings about their local communities. The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 14, at 6 p.m. at PennWest California’s Convocation Center.

The forum is part of Cook’s Student Advisors Program, which encourages students to identify and share the unique assets, attractions, and activities within their school districts. Presentations are expected from students representing Southeastern Greene, Carmichaels Area, Jefferson-Morgan, Bentworth, Brownsville Area and California Area school districts.

“Students are the foundation of our future in so many ways,” Cook said. “We are looking forward to hearing what they’ve discovered and will share. When students take the time to identify what makes their communities special, they become more invested in helping those areas grow and succeed.” He also said: “Having our students take an active role in this work helps strengthen their connection to the 50th district and encourages them to see the value and opportunity right here at home.”

Cook started the Student Advisors Program because he recognized how important it is for young people not only to engage with government but also with community growth and direction.

Cook leads initiatives such as ‘Come Home, Go Big and Have a Ball’ aimed at drawing residents to southwestern Pennsylvania; he serves as Republican secretary on the Agriculture Committee; chairs the Republican Subcommittee on Marketing under Tourism; represents Greene and Washington counties; serves on several committees including Agriculture and Rural Affairs as well as Environmental Resources; holds office as Pennsylvania State Representative for the 50th Legislative District; and has over thirty years of experience as a self-employed business owner focused on job creation—all according to the official website.

The forum is free for attendees. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream option will be available.
