U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly announced on June 2 his upcoming telephone town hall aimed at helping Pennsylvanians fight fraud, stop scams, and learn ways to protect their personal information.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time and will feature a panel of experts from the Federal Trade Commission, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office. The public can participate by dialing in or watching a livestream on Facebook.com/MikeKellyPA.
“My office often receives numerous calls from constituents who are incredibly concerned about, or have even fallen victim to, scams and fraud,” said Rep. Kelly. “Our goal with this live telephone town hall is to give Pennsylvanians the tools necessary to protect their personal information at a time when scams and fraud are on the rise. We hope you can join us!”
In April, the Federal Trade Commission announced scammers stole $2.1 billion from Americans via social media alone, an eightfold increase since 2020, according to the Federal Trade Commission. Also in April, Butler County officials warned residents of phone and “spoofing” scams.
Mike Kelly is currently serving in Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 16th district after replacing Kathy Dahlkemper in 2011; he was born in Pittsburgh in 1948 and lives in Butler. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a BA in 1970.
