Motorists in Union County should be aware that a roadway preservation project will continue next week on Route 45 in Buffalo and East Buffalo townships. Starting Monday, June 16, 2025, Vestal Asphalt, Inc. will work on Route 45 between Hardees Drive and Bull Run. The project involves removing existing pavement markings, applying micro-surface, and final line painting.

Work is scheduled from Monday, June 16 through Thursday, June 19, between 6:00 PM and 7:00 AM. The following week, work will occur from Sunday, June 22 through Thursday, June 26 during the same hours. Motorists should expect alternating lane conditions during these times.

Micro-surface is a material applied to good condition roadways to seal them and prevent further damage. It includes crushed stone for skid resistance and crack sealing, extending pavement life by five to seven years.

Vestal Asphalt, Inc. is the prime contractor for this $1.7 million project which combines three projects into one. It includes micro-surfacing of seven miles of Route 11 in Union Township, Snyder County; six miles of Route 45 in Buffalo and East Buffalo townships; and 1.6 miles of Locust Gap Highway in Mount Carmel Township, Northumberland County.

The project is expected to be completed by October 2025, weather permitting.

Motorists can check road conditions by visiting www.511PA.com or using the smartphone application available for iPhone and Android devices.
