Pennsylvania State Senator Devlin Robinson announced on Apr. 17 that women who served in the United States Armed Forces are encouraged to register by May 8 for a ceremony at the state Capitol honoring their service.
The event, known as the fourth annual Women Veterans Day Commemoration, is scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, at 11:30 a.m. in the main rotunda of the Pennsylvania state Capitol in Harrisburg. The commemoration aims to recognize and celebrate the contributions of women veterans across Pennsylvania.
Women veterans from across the commonwealth are invited to submit entries for a display featuring their likeness alongside personal reflections on “What Service Means to Me.” In advance of the in-person ceremony, a virtual display will be accessible online beginning June 8 at SenatorPennycuick.com. The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 8.
“As a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, I am familiar with the extraordinary service and sacrifice of Pennsylvania’s women veterans,” Robinson said. “Their bravery, resilience, and contributions to our nation’s military deserve recognition and celebration, and I commend my colleague, Sen. Tracy Pennycuick – a U.S Army combat veteran – for organizing this event to pay special tribute to all Pennsylvania women veterans.”
Robinson has supported initiatives benefiting veterans as well as first responders, law enforcement personnel, small businesses and healthcare access according to his official website. He maintains district offices in Pittsburgh and Wexford along with an office at the Capitol in Harrisburg according to his official website.
