Penn State men’s volleyball players Owen Rose and Sean Harvey were named Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively, according to a March 30 announcement. The honors follow Penn State’s victories over No. 15 Ohio State and two wins against No. 19 New Jersey Institute of Technology.
The recognition highlights the strong individual contributions that helped Penn State, ranked seventeenth nationally, secure important conference wins. Such awards underscore the team’s performance during a key stretch of their season.
Rose received his sixth career EIVA Defensive Player of the Week award—and third this season—after averaging 1.60 blocks per set along with 1.50 kills per set on .619 hitting across three matches. His standout effort came in Friday’s sweep over NJIT where he recorded six blocks and nine kills while hitting .900.
Harvey earned his third EIVA Offensive Player of the Week honor this season by posting a .411 hitting percentage with an average of 3.90 kills per set for the week. He led with a dominant showing in a four-set win over Ohio State, tallying twenty kills on .472 hitting, three digs, and one block; he followed up with ten kills in one sweep over NJIT and nine in another match against them.
So far this season, Penn State has collected seven weekly awards from the EIVA: Harvey has all three offensive honors for his team while Rose shares defensive accolades with teammate Ryan Merk, who each have two.
Looking ahead, Penn State will continue its conference schedule with back-to-back matches at Charleston scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m.
