Construction is set to begin soon on a $6.3 million project aimed at improving the Route 832 corridor in Millcreek Township, Erie County. The work will cover over a mile of Route 832 and include enhancements to traffic signals at several intersections.
The project involves milling and paving 1.3 miles of Peninsula Drive from Route 5 (12th Street) to the entrance of Presque Isle State Park, as well as improvements at the intersection of Route 832 and 23rd Street. Additional updates will be made to drainage systems, signage, road paint markings, and guiderails.
Safety upgrades such as ADA curb ramps, roadway markers, and new traffic signals are planned for intersections at Sixth Street, Eighth Street, and 23rd Street. Permanent speed bumps will be installed near Sara’s Restaurant, and signal retiming will occur at the intersection of Route 832 and Route 5.
Construction is scheduled to start on June 23, 2025, weather permitting. Paving should be completed by October 2025, with some traffic signal work possibly extending into spring 2026. During construction, motorists can expect traffic shifts, temporary signals, lane restrictions, and potential travel delays. However, access to Presque Isle State Park and other local destinations will remain open.
To accommodate holiday travel during Independence Day and Labor Day weekends in 2025, no lane restrictions are planned from July 3-7 or August 29-September 2.
Lindy Paving Inc., based in New Galilee, PA, has been contracted for the project at a cost of $6,362,805.45. Funding comprises 80 percent federal funds and 20 percent state funds.
