Roxborough Memorial Hospital announced on April 22 that its podiatry team earned second place in the Scientific Format category at the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) annual conference. Dr. Anushka Ramnani, a podiatry resident, along with attending physicians Dr. Larry Goss and Dr. Derick Waldner, were recognized for their research on popliteal nerve block approaches.
The recognition highlights the hospital’s ongoing commitment to clinical excellence and innovation in patient care. The ACFAS meeting is the largest gathering of podiatric surgeons in the country, attracting nearly 2,300 attendees and featuring sessions on minimally invasive surgery as well as advances in clinical research.
Dr. Ramnani’s poster presentation, titled “A Comparative Study of Popliteal Nerve Block Approaches and Guidance Modalities,” found that using ultrasound guidance can improve the effectiveness of local anesthetic delivery for lower-extremity procedures. The study suggests this method may help reduce opioid use after surgery and improve patient outcomes.
Chief Podiatry Resident Dr. Catur Chan also presented case reports at the conference, including reviews on necrotizing fasciitis in patients with HIV and diabetic foot infections, as well as lead arthropathy following gunshot wounds to the ankle.
Shawn Parekh, CEO of Roxborough Memorial Hospital, said: “We are immensely proud of Dr. Ramnani, Dr. Goss, and Dr. Waldner for their remarkable contributions to perioperative pain management and clinical research. Their work exemplifies our institution’s commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and patient-centered care. Recognition at a national forum like ACFAS underscores the caliber of our clinicians and the impactful work being accomplished at Roxborough Memorial Hospital. We also commend Dr. Chan for his dedication to advancing clinical knowledge in podiatric practice.”
Roxborough Memorial Hospital has served northwest Philadelphia communities since 1890 as a community hospital with 146 beds.
