Kyle Schwarber missed the Philadelphia Phillies’ 5-4 win over the Cincinnati Reds after waking up feeling “under the weather,” interim manager Don Mattingly said on May 18. The team hopes Schwarber will recover in time to return to the lineup for Tuesday’s game.
This was the first time since September 11, 2024, that Schwarber was not in the starting lineup, ending his streak of 225 consecutive games played. He currently leads Major League Baseball with 20 home runs this season and has hit nine homers in his last ten games.
With Schwarber out, Bryce Harper—who had also played every game so far this season—filled in as designated hitter against the Reds. Alec Bohm moved across the diamond to start at first base. Mattingly said, “It’s hard to get [Harper] out of there — you don’t want to ever really get him out of there. So when we can take advantage and give him a DH day, knowing he’s a guy that’s out there grinding every day, we’re going to try to do it.”
The Philadelphia Phillies represent their city in Major League Baseball and engage with fans through both games and community outreach activities, according to the official website. The team plays its home games at Citizens Bank Park—a stadium they have used since 2004—and serves both local and national audiences as a charter member of Major League Baseball’s National League.
The Phillies have previously achieved World Series victories in 1980 and 2008 under executive leadership that oversees club operations from their front office, according to their official website.
