The University of Pennsylvania announced on May 21 that Sean Boen has joined the men’s soccer team’s coaching staff. Brian Gill, the James C. Gentle Head Men’s Soccer Coach, welcomed Boen to the program and expressed appreciation for his predecessor.
This addition is significant as it brings a new perspective and energy to the team, particularly in training goalkeepers. Gill said, “First I would like to thank Liam Abdalla for all of his dedication and commitment to the program during these last three seasons. It was great to watch him grow as a coach and there is no question that he had a positive impact on the staff and players in our teams over the years.” He added, “I am excited to have Sean join the staff. Thankfully he was able to get in with us through the back end of the Spring, which was important because it gave him some much-needed time to better understand the role and the dynamics within the program. As a young coach, he has good energy and I appreciate the passion he brings to the field while working with our goalkeepers.”
Boen graduated from Rutgers-Camden University in 2024 as one of its most accomplished goalkeepers. He started for three years with Rutgers-Camden’s Scarlet Raptors and earned multiple New Jersey Athletic Conference honors during his collegiate career.
In addition to his playing experience, Boen has served as head goalkeeping coach at STA Mount Olive since 2025 where he plans, manages, and implements training programs for youth players aged 10-19 across several competitive levels.
Boen said about joining Penn: “I am truly honored and excited to be joining the Penn men’s soccer coaching staff. Joining the team this spring has given me a deep appreciation for the culture and excellence this program brings every day,” adding that “It has been a pleasure integrating myself into the staff so far, and I am eager to continue learning, growing, and carrying on Penn soccer’s legacy.”
