Six Penn College archers were named to the All-East Region team following their results at the USA Archery East Region Championships, held last weekend at James Madison University, according to an April 15 announcement.
The recognition comes after a series of individual and team successes for the Wildcats. Roman Moss earned gold in men’s barebow, while Josiah Hinojos took gold in men’s fixed pins. Colby Dell secured silver in men’s compound, and Liz Gruodis claimed silver in women’s barebow. Tayton Roys received bronze in men’s fixed pins, with Anthony Olenchak finishing fourth in the same event. In team competition, Dell, Cannon Youndt and Eli Bartron won the men’s compound event; Hinojos, Olenchak and Roys won men’s fixed pins; Gruodis and Moss placed second in mixed barebow; Bartron and Haylee Parker finished fifth in mixed compound.
The six athletes selected for the All-East Region team were Hinojos, Moss, Bartron, Olenchak, Youndt and Cooper Goldring (men’s recurve). Hinojos was also on last year’s squad. “It was a great weekend. I was very pleased overall. We’re looking to carry the momentum to nationals,” Dustin Bartron said.
Penn College Wildcats Archery competes under the Wildcats nickname with both men’s and women’s archers according to the official website. The program includes student-athletes from freshman through senior classes on its co-ed roster according to the official website, offering collegiate-level opportunities for competition according to the official website. Former head coach Chad Karstetter led Penn College Wildcats Archery to notable achievements including 10 national championship teams according to the official website.
Looking ahead, Penn College archers will compete next at USA Archery Target Nationals scheduled for May 14-17 in East Lansing.
