Following Governor Shapiro’s recent budget address to the Pennsylvania General Assembly, small business representatives have voiced concerns about the potential effects of his proposals on local enterprises. Greg Moreland, State Director for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), commented on behalf of the small business community.

“Pennsylvania small businesses are on high alert after Governor Shapiro proposed more costly and burdensome mandates on Main Street. These proposals will stifle the economic growth the Commonwealth so desperately needs and highlights the outrageous government spending currently happening. Now is not the time to overwhelm small businesses with costly and burdensome mandates,” said Moreland.

He continued, “Small business owners need leaders to prioritize policies that will instead strengthen our local workforce and give small business owners the freedom to run and operate their businesses. We encourage Governor Shapiro and members of the General Assembly to work with small businesses to find working solutions that will strengthen the small business economy, and in turn, Pennsylvania’s economy as a whole.”

NFIB has also published its legislative priorities for 2026.
