Rep. Tom Jones announced on May 11 that he will host a town hall meeting with Rep. Wendy Fink, Sen. Dawn Keefer, and former Rep. Frank Ryan to discuss the issue of school property taxes in Pennsylvania. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27, from 6-8 p.m. at Elizabethtown High School.
The purpose of the town hall is to provide residents an opportunity to ask questions, share their experiences, and learn about legislative proposals aimed at eliminating school property taxes in the state. Among these are House Bill 1649 introduced by Fink and Senate Bill 962 introduced by Keefer.
“For far too long, Pennsylvania homeowners and employers have carried the heavy and unpredictable burden of school property taxes. This town hall is an opportunity for residents to learn more about potential solutions that would eliminate these taxes and replace them with a fairer system,” Jones said. “I encourage anyone interested in property tax relief to attend, ask questions and be part of the conversation about how we can better protect taxpayers while continuing to support quality education for our students.” Residents are encouraged to use an online calculator at noprop.tax to estimate how their taxes might change under the proposed legislation.
Jones has prioritized upholding the sanctity of life, protecting Second Amendment rights, enhancing election integrity, promoting parental roles in education, and controlling government spending during his time as representative for the 98th Legislative District; he also chaired the East Donegal Township Board of Supervisors without raising taxes during his tenure and served on several legislative committees including Agricultural and Rural Affairs as well as Housing and Community Development according to the official website.
RSVPs are requested for those planning to attend; residents may call Jones’ office or visit his website for more information.
