The Pittsburgh Steelers announced their 2026 season schedule on May 16, with players expressing anticipation for the upcoming games. The release of the schedule comes just before organized team activities begin at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.
The annual schedule release is a key moment for both fans and players, marking a step closer to the start of football season. Tight end Pat Freiermuth said, “I get excited for the schedule release. It’s when you start figuring out your path to victory. It’s been cool to experience it over the years. But it’s still a long way until September when we play.” Receiver Ben Skowronek added that while he appreciates home games, his focus remains on being ready regardless of location: “It is definitely great playing at home, but it doesn’t really matter where we play to me… I just know when a plane leaves or when I need to show up at Acrisure Stadium.”
This year’s slate features four primetime matchups and includes a home game on Black Friday against the Denver Broncos. Skowronek said, “I like playing at night… It reminds me of Friday Night Lights in high school. In the NFL it gives an opportunity for your peers to watch.” Freiermuth noted, “Having primetime games in front of our fans, and even going on the road, it’s electric… Playing at home, and on Black Friday, is going to be cool.” Safety DeShon Elliott recalled his first interception as a Steeler against Atlanta in 2024 and expressed hope for another strong start: “Hopefully I can do that again… being home for the first game is really cool as well.” The team will also travel internationally for an NFL Paris game against New Orleans; Skowronek said he looks forward to experiencing new cultures through these opportunities.
Players highlighted strategic points in this year’s calendar such as a bye week after eight games—Elliott called it “a great chance to refresh your body.” The regular season closes with another matchup against division rival Baltimore Ravens; last year’s finale determined the AFC North title after Baltimore missed a field goal late in regulation.
Flexible scheduling procedures remain part of league policy so some game times may shift during Weeks 5-18 depending on matchups’ significance and broadcast considerations. Details about these policies are provided by league officials ahead of each affected week.
The Steelers have achieved six Super Bowl championships throughout their history and honor figures such as Terry Bradshaw and Joe Greene in their Hall of Honor according to the official website. The organization also engages its community through historical celebrations including its Hall of Honor Museum located at Acrisure Stadium according to its official website.
Looking ahead, fans are reminded that flexible scheduling could result in changes later this season as league officials continue reviewing procedures aimed at maximizing exciting matchups.
