ERIE COUNTY: Anderson new Chairman of County Council

Erie County issued the following announcement on Jan 5.

Carl Anderson III was chosen as the 2021 Chairman of Erie County Council by his colleagues on Council at their Reorganization Meeting today at 4pm. The 53 year old Anderson, succeeds André R. Horton who served in 2020. Chairman Anderson expects Council to be very active this year especially in this time of COVID-19. Accordingly, he is forming the COVID Impact & Revitalization Committee as a means to address the local institutions and businesses most affected by the COVID 19 pandemic. Anderson will Co-Chair the Committee with Kim Clear (Vice Chair of Council), fellow Members serving are Brian Shank and Mary Rennie, from Districts 5 & 3 respectively.

Chairman Anderson addressed the need for action in his remarks to Council today: “If we are standing still, we really are falling behind. It’s a time when we need to be bold and aggressive, we need to be patient and persistent. I believe together we can build a new Erie County. I believe in the resilience of the people in Erie County. I believe in this Council. I believe in the commitment of this administration and the people who work for this community. I believe that all things are possible, when we united, work together to accomplish common goals.”

Anderson also announced several important Council Committee assignments:

Kim Clear- Chairman Finance Committee

Mary Rennie-Chairman Personnel Committee, Compensation Committee

Mr. Anderson will also serve as Chairman of the Pleasant Ridge Manor Board of Directors and upon election, as the Chair of the Erie County Retirement Board. Anderson and wife Evelyn, lifelong residents of Erie County, have two children Autumn Rose and Carl. He was first elected to County Council in 2017 to serve District 4 which includes most of the City’s 5th Ward, and portions of the 2rd Ward, Wesleyville Borough and Millcreek Township. Mr. Anderson most recently served as Vice Chairman of County Council, and Chairman of the County Election Board in 2019 and 2020.
