On July 5, Gov. Tom Wolf (D-PA) ordered that all Pennsylvania flags on commonwealth facilities, public buildings and grounds be down at half-staff in honor of the victims of the tragic July 4 shooting at a holiday parade in Highland Park, Illinois that killed at least seven people and injured dozens.
The order comes in concurrence with an order by President Joe Biden to lower U.S. flags to half-staff, as well. The U.S. and commonwealth flags will be half-staff until sunset of Saturday, July 9. All Pennsylvania residents are invited to participate.
“My prayers are with the victims, their families and the entire Highland Park community,” said Wolf. “ It breaks my heart every time another community is victimized by mass gun violence. We cannot accept gun violence as inevitable in America. We should be able to have holiday parades without gun violence and fear.”
