A member of the Pennsylvania Task Force 1 (PA-TF1) Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) has deployed to Kentucky for response and recovery after the deadly flooding that has destroyed much of the state.
According to a press release by Gov. Tom Wolf, the member that has been deployed is serving as the deputy planner with a federal incident Support Team. The member comes following the flooding, with more rain in the forecast, and could be in Kentucky for up to two weeks.
“It will take years for survivors to recover from the destruction of entire communities, and those who lost their lives will never be forgotten,” Wolf said. “Pennsylvania stands ready to assist now in the immediate aftermath, and in the weeks and months to come by providing whatever support we can.”
Wolf added that the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency will be monitoring the Emergency Management Assistance Compact system, which is the formal agreement that allows states to share their resources during a disaster scenario. This includes personnel and equipment.
PA-TF1 is one of 28 teams in the National Urban Search and Rescue Response System. It is a federal resource that is sponsored by the Philadelphia Fire Department that can be deployed quickly to incidents all around the country.
