Temple Health leaders, elected officials, and community partners gathered at Temple Women & Families Hospital on April 10 to mark two significant developments: the allocation of more than $890,000 in state funding for emergency power system upgrades and the introduction of a new Community Care Kiosk created by the Maternity Care Coalition.

Abhi Rastogi, President & CEO of Temple Health, said these investments are crucial for families who depend on the hospital during important moments. “These are the kinds of investments that are not always visible, but which are absolutely essential—particularly at a facility like this one, where families rely on us in such important moments,” Rastogi said. He added that “access to care must be matched by reliability, resilience, and trust.”

Sharon Kurfuerst, Executive Director of Temple Health Women & Families Hospital, opened the event by emphasizing the hospital’s mission to provide accessible and equitable care for women and children. She described the day as “a reflection of the partnerships that are helping move our mission forward—from investments in critical infrastructure to enhancing access to critical health resources.”

State Senator Christine Tartaglione and State Representative Jason Dawkins attended and were recognized for their advocacy in securing Commonwealth funds. Maryanne Fray, President and CEO of Maternity Care Coalition, spoke about ongoing efforts with Temple Health to improve maternal and child health across Philadelphia.

The new Community Care Kiosk offers free items such as diapers, wipes, and women’s hygiene products. It is noted as being the first installation of its kind in Philadelphia from Maternity Care Coalition. The kiosk aims to serve as a model for future collaborations focused on addressing gaps in maternal and child health services.

“These initiatives demonstrate how partnerships can remove barriers to care,” Rastogi said. Kurfuerst also described the kiosk as part of broader strategies designed to improve access for families living near the hospital.

Both projects underscore a shared commitment among healthcare leaders and policymakers to strengthen support systems for women and families throughout Philadelphia.
