The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that temporary construction barriers and sign installations will occur at night next week on southbound Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia. This work is part of a $355.3 million project aimed at reconstructing and improving northbound I-95 between Wheatsheaf Lane and Margaret Street, replacing three bridges, and rehabilitating two ramps at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange.
Motorists should be aware of travel restrictions during this period. From Monday, June 2, through Friday, June 6, lane closures will be in effect from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on sections of southbound I-95 between the Cottman Avenue and Allegheny Avenue interchanges. Additionally, from Tuesday, June 3, through Friday, June 6, the far right lane (collector-distributor) on southbound I-95 will be closed through the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange during the same hours.
Furthermore, the southbound I-95 on-ramp from Aramingo Avenue at the Bridge Street Interchange will also be closed from Tuesday to Friday during nighttime hours. Motorists will need to travel south on Aramingo Avenue and turn right onto Adams Avenue to access the ramp to southbound I-95 at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through these areas due to potential significant backups and delays. All scheduled activities are dependent on weather conditions.
