Tessa Janecke and Danica Maynard of Penn State women’s ice hockey were named to All-USCHO teams on April 3. Janecke was selected for the All-USCHO First Team, while Maynard earned spots on both the Third Team and Rookie Team.
These honors highlight the achievements of two key players in Penn State’s program. Such recognition is significant as it reflects their contributions at both conference and national levels during the season.
Janecke, described as one of the most decorated student-athletes in Penn State history, became the program’s first CCM/AHCA First Team All-American on March 21 and is now its first All-USCHO selection as well. She had previously been a second team selection for both honors over her last two seasons. This year, she also became Penn State’s first Top-Three Finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award and is a three-time Top-10 Finalist for that award. Janecke earned her third consecutive AHA Player and Forward of the Year honor this year and is a four-time All-AHA selection. Over her four years, she totaled 201 points with 89 goals and 112 assists, making her Penn State’s all-time leading scorer across both men’s and women’s programs.
Janecke crossed the 200-point milestone with two goals in the Frozen Four against eventual national champion Wisconsin. She also won gold medals with Team USA at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics—becoming Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics’ first Winter Olympic gold medalist—and at both the 2023 and 2025 IIHF World Championships.
Maynard received Third Team and Rookie Team honors after an impressive freshman season that included three AHA postseason awards: Rookie of the Year, Second Team selection, and Rookie Team honoree. With 33 points this season, she tied Kendall Butze for most points by a defenseman in program history; her nine goals matched another team record for defensemen.
Looking ahead, these accolades underscore both athletes’ impact on collegiate women’s ice hockey nationally while setting new benchmarks within their own program.
