The University of Pennsylvania women’s rowing team advanced three out of four boats to the A Finals at the inaugural Orlando Invitational, according to an April 17 announcement. The event, hosted by the University of Central Florida on Lake Pickett, is set to conclude on Saturday.
This achievement highlights Penn’s strong performance in a competitive field that includes nationally ranked teams. Advancing to the A Finals allows these crews to compete for top honors in their respective events.
Penn’s Varsity Eight narrowly missed qualifying for its A Final after finishing third in its heat with a time of 6:21.2, just one-tenth of a second behind Oklahoma’s time from another heat. The Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight secured their spots by placing among the top two in their heats; notably, the Third Varsity Eight posted a winning time of 6:36.9 against UCF and Miami. The Second Varsity Eight also reached the A Final after its own third-place finish was enough due to slower times from competitors in other heats.
Heats featured strong competition from teams such as UCF, Miami, and Clemson. The finals are scheduled to begin at 7:40 a.m. on Saturday.
