Six players with connections to the Philadelphia Union are preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as national teams continue their pre-tournament friendlies. According to a June 1 update from the club, these players represent Haiti, South Africa, and the United States in this year’s competition.
Olwethu Makhanya made his senior debut for South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on Saturday, playing a full match in a 0-0 draw against Nicaragua. The United States Men’s National Team defeated Senegal 3-2 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Mark McKenzie started at centerback before being substituted off for Miles Robinson early in the second half. Auston Trusty entered as well and played alongside Robinson. Matt Freese did not feature during this match, while Brenden Aaronson awaits his chance to appear for the squad. The U.S. will next face Germany on June 6 at Soldier Field in Chicago.
Danley Jean Jacques is set to represent Haiti when they play New Zealand on Tuesday in Fort Lauderdale as part of their final preparations before the tournament begins.
Philadelphia Union features a roster of professional players competing within Major League Soccer and achieved its best regular-season performance by winning the Supporters’ Shield in 2020; its home matches are held at Subaru Park with additional training facilities available nearby, according to the official website.
