A former Wampum, Pennsylvania resident has been sentenced to 17 years in federal prison for producing material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor. The sentencing was announced by Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.

United States District Judge Christy Criswell Wiegand handed down the sentence to Thomas Hyatt-Baney, 22, on August 28, 2025. After his release from prison, Hyatt-Baney will be subject to 15 years of supervised release. Restitution in the case will be determined at a future hearing.

Court records show that on June 25, 2023, between 12:30 p.m. and 12:37 p.m., Hyatt-Baney used his phone to create three video clips involving the sexual exploitation of a toddler. The court also found him responsible for making another video involving the same child and possessing hundreds of videos and images depicting child sexual abuse.

Assistant United States Attorney Carolyn J. Bloch prosecuted the case.

Acting United States Attorney Rivetti stated, “I commend the Pennsylvania State Police and Homeland Security Investigations for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Hyatt-Baney.”

The prosecution was part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood coordinates efforts among federal, state, and local agencies to locate offenders and rescue victims.
