A Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania resident was sentenced on April 7 to one year of supervised release after pleading guilty to theft on an aircraft, according to United States Attorney Troy Rivetti. Jaymer Ferrell, age 23, also received a sentence of 90 days of home detention and was ordered to pay a $250 fine.

The case centers around an incident that occurred on April 9, 2025. The Allegheny County Police Department responded to reports of an unruly passenger vaping aboard a flight from Los Angeles to Pittsburgh. A flight attendant told investigators that Ferrell had been seen vaping and searching through multiple bags in the overhead bins during the journey. The attendant believed Ferrell had stolen items from other passengers’ luggage based on his behavior over the course of the hours-long flight.

Upon landing at Pittsburgh International Airport, Ferrell was taken into custody due to an outstanding warrant. Authorities found him in possession of a backpack containing another passenger’s wallet and debit and credit cards.

United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak imposed the sentence following Ferrell’s guilty plea in federal court. Assistant United States Attorney V. Joseph Sonson prosecuted the case.

Rivetti said he commended both the Allegheny County Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation for their work investigating this case.
