The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission are urging drivers to exercise caution during a winter weather event expected this weekend. Both organizations are preparing for potential snow and ice, which could impact road conditions.

“Motorists should avoid unnecessary travel if possible,” said Mike Keiser, PennDOT’s Acting Deputy Secretary for Highway Administration. “If you must drive, please slow down and increase your following distance.”

The agencies have coordinated efforts to ensure roads are treated and cleared efficiently. They recommend that drivers stay informed about weather conditions and road closures by checking the 511PA website or using the mobile app.

Pennsylvania Turnpike CEO Mark Compton emphasized the importance of preparation: “Our crews will be working around the clock to keep the turnpike safe. We ask that travelers do their part by being patient and driving safely.”

The collaboration between PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission highlights their commitment to public safety during severe weather events. More information can be found on their official websites.
