A York County man has been sentenced to six years in federal prison for distributing child pornography. Michael Carbaugh, 39, received a 72-month sentence from United States District Judge Keli M. Neary following his guilty plea.

According to United States Attorney Brian D. Miller, Carbaugh admitted to distributing more than 1,800 images of child pornography between October 1 and November 7, 2023. Law enforcement identified devices sharing illegal material on the BitTorrent network during that period. Investigators determined those devices were registered to Carbaugh and used a Comcast IP address in his name.

The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. The program brings together federal, state, and local agencies to locate and prosecute offenders while identifying and rescuing victims. More information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at www.usdoj.gov/psc.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Michael Scalera handled the prosecution.
